In 2023, I’m going to move this newsletter over to PencilBooth. Posts will still go directly to your inbox, but the comments feature will no longer be available. You will be able to just reply to me directly through old-fashioned email instead of through the Substack site. I decided to make the switch because PencilBooth is designed by an artist, for artists and just gives me better vibes business-wise. I should be able to make the switch for you so that you don’t have to do anything, but I’ll let you know as I figure it out over the holidays.
Moving is a great way to fight the inertia I tend to have after I finish a big piece. The fear that I won’t be able to draw as well again can only be overcome by drawing again and seeing what happens. It is easier for me to start again by trying new techniques, as if I can forgive myself for the amateur look if I actually am a beginner. The first and last pieces are printmaking-inspired, but digitally created. The block printing one below uses brushes and lessons from Lisa Bardot, and the Risograph brushes used above were created by RetroSupply.
Sorry for being inconsistent with these posts. I aim to do better in 2023, hopefully once a month. Until then, may your holidays be merry and bright!
Your art is always great, but I especially like those mittens!
